There’s a property boom a’coming (maybe), but what if you’re not ready to buy a property yet – or just don’t want to? Is there another way you can profit from any growth that’s to come?
This week we discussed 5 ways to get exposure to the property market without directly owning a property yourself. Call it, 29 episodes in, our attempt at balance.
Because it’s not our strong suit, we used this Telegraph article as the basis for our discussion, and covered:
- A new “Property tracker fund” from Castle Trust
- Residential property funds
- Commercial property funds
- Buying shares in housebuilders
- Buying shares in other companies whose fortunes are correlated with the property market
We discussed the advantages of these types of investments, but also uncovered some downsides that meant we’re not going to be tempted away from our more “active” investment style just yet. Listen to the episode to find out what they are.
(By the way, we’re not financial advisors by a long chalk, so take our views as uninformed opinions rather than fact or advice.)
Resource of the week
We’ve covered similar services before, but Instapaper has just had a revamp and could be worth a look if you don’t have a solution to organise your online reading yet.
When you find an article you want to read but don’t have time for right now, just use Instapaper’s bookmarklet to save it for later. It’ll then sync across all your devices so you can come back to it when it’s more convenient. It’ll even keep track of where you left off, so if you’re halfway through reading an article on your laptop, you can automatically pick up where you left off on your phone.
It’s free, so give it a whirl!
This week’s news
This week we brought you exciting news about how you can easily buy aircraft hangars, mansions and gentlemen’s clubs…but unfortunately, only virtually.
The new version of Grand Theft Auto is out, and Rob B uncovered a guide to buying property within the game. We’re not big gamers, but if you need a bit of escapism after another day of trudging around viewing terraced houses, you might be inspired to give it a go.
