With the vote on Scottish independence a week away, we thought this would be an excellent time to ask: should you buy property in Scotland?
As well as speculating about the impact of the independence vote, we also covered:
- The differences in the property buying process in Scotland and England (Nick Stott’s excellent guest post gives more detail)
- What you need to know about the important differences in rental legislation
- What areas you might look to buy in (including how you’ve probably missed the boat on Aberdeen, but this Guardian article makes for fascinating reading)
- Whether now is a good time to buy, and what the next few years might hold
For all the details, just listen to the episode. And thank you to Martin Gordon for his voicemail that prompted us into action!

News this week
We read fascinating story in The Economist this week, comparing housing bubbles across Europe.
The article shows how housing markets in European countries took one of two different paths after the crash…and the ones that avoided the major downturn (like England, Norway, Belgium and others) are far from in the clear – with no clear path for governments as to how to deal with it.
